Week 6 Lab Post 02/26/2025 This week in lab, I learned quite a bit. We finished working on our ecosystem slides with our table groups and we had deserts. From doing this mini project I learned more about the food chain of the desert and we also did scenarios about a drought happening and how that would affect the food chain and we had to come up with an alternative as a solution. We went over our NGSS lesson assignment as a class. We got to look at caterpillars in their cocoons and talked about their life cycle briefly. We also looked at our fast plants and ours bloomed! A couple stems were falling over so we used a silicon ring to hold them up. Next, we used dead bees to pollinate our flowers by putting them a stick and touching the flower blooms with it. Then, we read a book about turtles and then we did an activity with turtle fortune tellers to see which baby turtles would survive. After, we did a short worksheet over wha...

Week 5 Blog 02/19/2025  This week, we had lab on zoom, although we were not able to meet in person, we got a lot done and learned new knowledge and also built on upon prior knowledge throughout our zoom lab. We started the lab by going over the five parts of the 5E model which are: engage, explore, explain, elaborate, and lastly evaluate. We then also talked about the lesson plan assignment for this week just to make sure we all understood what we are supposed to do. We then broke up into small groups and made a small google slides presentation over the 5 parts of 5E and what the teacher does in each part and what the student does. Then, we broke back up into our small groups and went over the reader response from last week which was the NGSS classroom video featuring Ms. Copes class and their lesson over changes to the earth and their ef...

Week 4 Lab Blog 02/12/2025 This week lab was a little different than usual, we had a snow day so the work that we were supposed to do was assigned asynchronously. We learned about a 5E lesson model and what the functions of each section are. Then, we completed an assignment where we had to find the lesson on NGSS with limited information. Next, we had to define the performance expectation of the lesson, and answer 6 reflection questions in regards to 5E. Then, we had to find and write the scientific and engineering practices, crosscutting concepts, and the disciplinary core ideas.  Thinking back to my prior knowledge, learning about 5E was new to me this week but I found it to be very helpful as a future educator. NGSS, I am somewhat getting familiar with due to this class and us exploring it and learning about it often in ...

Week Three Blog Post

Week Three Lab 02/05/2025 This week in lab we learned quite a bit. We learned about the life cycle of a butterfly and how it goes from an egg, to a larva, to a pupa, and then an adult butterfly. We learned more about the life cycle of various plants and animals and we did our own little life cycle example on a paper plate with play dough, making a 3-D example. We went around the classroom and showed what each group did, my partner Ellie and I did the life cycle of a carrot, as shown in the photo below. We also looked at our lentil seeds (to the right) and saw that they germinated and now are growing roots, from when we put them in the cups with cotton balls and water last week in lab, we also added more water and put them back in the incubator. We also learned about the life cycle of a lima bean, lemon trees, and lettuce learning that most plants go through a similar life cycle. Next, we learned about "fast plants" an...
